Lapeyre Stair has an opportunity for a Stair System Designer to assist in their Engineering department to perform a variety of engineering, drafting and design layouts of stair configurations usually with limited supervision. The successful candidate will translate design concepts into detailed customer erection drawings and create detailed shop drawings from 3D models using Advanced Steel (AutoCad based software). 

Lapeyre Stair constructs precision built metal stair systems using a state-of-the-art engineering and manufacturing system. The Lapeyre Stair product line includes Alternating Tread stairs, Steel Egress stairs (welded and bolted) as well as crossover systems, exit and intermediate platforms, and safety gates. Responsibilities

  • Create 3D stair models based off of Architectural / Structural documents and Lapeyre Stair Design Standards.
  • Write clear and concise RFIs in a timely manner once assigned a project.
  • Consult Lead Designer for guidance when there are uncertainties at any stage in a project.   
  • Flexibility / ability to assist in reviewing Lapeyre Stair IFA packages when needed.
  • Attend and participate in frequent turnover meetings for new projects.
  • Ensure that each model is in compliance with Lapeyre Stair’s Model Check List before any model is submitted to Lead Designer for final review.
  • Document time of completion of all tasks in ERP system.
Requirements
  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent drafting/designing experience.
  • 5 years minimum 3D modeling experience in CAD software.
  • Expert level at both reading architectural and structural drawings and deciphering any incongruences between the two. 
  • Ability to excel in onboarding and performance in a remote environment.
  • Self-managed, team-player, good communication skills, detail oriented. 
  • Adaptability to new processes and roles within the Engineering group. 
  • Mechanically competent. 
  • Proficient with Windows, Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Power Point). Fluent in written/spoken English. 

Desired Qualifications

  • Hands on experience in a manufacturing environment. 
  • Experience in speaking with General Contractors in regards to resolving field issues.
  • Associate’s or vocational/technical degree. 
  • Other trade experience (welding, Iron working, woodworking, electrical, auto mechanic, etc.)
  • Stair system / structural steel design experience 
  • Experience with current version of AutoCAD, Advanced Steel or Revit.
  • Hands on experience in the construction industry
