Intralox has an opening for a Spiral Application Engineer to work on the rapidly growing spirals platform.  This posted position pertains to providing controls and mechanical consulting support for various spiral technologies operating across many industries. 

This position would be responsible for the electrical control system design/implementation for the spiral platform, supporting the development and roll-out of new spiral technologies, and assisting with all pre-sale and after-sale activities including but not limited to initial spiral inquiries engineering evaluations, installations, commissioning, and troubleshooting. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected in day to day work.  This role does require substantial travel. The position will be based out of our office in Shanghai.

  • Implement innovative controls for our latest spiral technologies (R&D)
  • Improve programming for a variety of PLC’s utilized in Intralox spiral solutions
  • Collaborate with colleagues & support customers
  • Design and support building of controls and automation systems to support the continuous development of the product lines offered in the spiral platform.
  • Own the electrical portion of Intralox spiral solutions from concept engineering through customer implementation.
  • Independently design in CAD electrical control panel layouts, bills of materials and schematics
  • Execute budgeting, estimating and pricing of control systems per project or proposal scope
  • Manage and direct on-site (in-plant) installation and commissioning of spiral technologies
  • Create documentation and training materials for all potential users including but not limited to Intralox engineers, customers, suppliers, and subcontractors  
  • Provide remote or on-site (in-plant) troubleshooting and auditing of spirals and their corresponding control systems
  • Create reports and communications to team members and/or customers on learnings from troubleshoots, audits, or commissionings
  • Complete assigned projects to quality standards, on time, and within budget
  • Oversee testing of proposed solutions whether in-house, with suppliers or as field testing.
  • Ensure that initial training plan exist and is being executed for initial implementation.
  • Manage and maintain spiral test equipment
  • Responsible for completing spiral engineering evaluations using predictive tools, calculations and simulations
  •   Assist the implementation team in technical audits and health checks for Optimization Projects, particularly with new technology / complex projects
  • Interface with the implementation team to ensure successful  field execution: reviews/approves drawings when necessary; reviews applications and determines product suitability, promotes the highest quality and workmanship standards; and pro-actively work to establish and maintain global implementation standards, best practices per technology
  • Manage any class product/solution performance issues
  • Available after regular business hours to support colleagues and clients with respect to spiral matters


  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or other engineering/technology discipline from accredited school
  • Ability to understand Master’s-level Electrical & Mechanical Engineering concepts.  Ability to take those concepts and apply them to real world electromechanical challenges
  • Native Mandarin Chinese and fluent English
  • Extensive programming experience – 4-8 years related experience preferred
  • Expertise in industrial control circuit design, particularly equipment interface practices
  • Proficient in configuring PLC’s, HMI’s, computers, networks, cameras and variable frequency drives which are used in spiral equipment
  • Proficient in AutoCAD LT for control circuit development or similar experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Mastery of English language.
  • Willingness and ability to train Equipment builders across the world
  • Work in a team environment; acceptance of established standards
  • Understanding of mechanical systems; willingness to work with hand tools
  • Ability and willingness to travel (both domestic and international) and perform field service (25-50%); work weekends holidays and overtime when required
  • Bachelor of Science degree required in Computer Programming, Engineering or other related field.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience programming in Rockwell Logix500 and Logix5000 processors using RsLogix500 and Studio5000 programming software
  • Proficient programming Siemens S7-1200 processors using TIA Portal V13.
