As a key member of the Operations management team, the Shipping Supervisor will be responsible for the direct supervision of all Shipping employees.

  • Coordinate activities of Shipping personnel in support of completing day to day operational objectives with employee safety as top priority.
  • Utilize problem solving skills and knowledge of Shipping operations to troubleshoot and identify process improvements to achieve “Operational Excellence”
  • Recognize skills and acknowledge gaps in your team members and provide coaching to close those gaps.
  • Manage day-to-day planning for shipping activities according to the Operations business plan.
  • Assess capacity of the team and assist in hiring and training of all new employees in the Shipping department.
  • Establish minimum performance standards for each employee, evaluating employees’ performance against those standards, and providing feedback to promote individual improvement.
  • Motivate, organize and encourage teamwork to ensure set productivity targets are met.
  • Encourage an environment of continuous improvement and convey the concepts of the Laitram Business Philosophy within the department.
  • Measure and report the results of department activities and KPI’s.


  • Bachelor’s degree in technical or business discipline preferred, equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Leadership experience with a demonstrated ability to manage employees and lead teams.
  • Experience and proven success in identifying and implementing meaningful process improvements.
  • Experience in handling, prioritizing and delegating multiple tasks in a fast-paced dynamic environment under the pressure of deadlines.
  • Experience with parcel, LTL, and TL service providers as well as third party logistics companies.    
  • Desire to lead, mentor and develop team members.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Must have strong leadership skills and possess a positive, “can-do” attitude.
  • Must be able to work well with others in a team-oriented environment.
  • Must possess a strong attention to detail and high standards.
  • Willing to work overtime and on weekends as required.

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous leadership experience in a Shipping, Warehousing, or Manufacturing environment.
  • High level understanding of import and export documentation requirements.
  • Understanding of LEAN concepts 
  • Previous experience with Oracle or ERP systems.
