Intralox LLC is looking for a Mechanical Engineer for the Integration team in our Hanover, MD office.

Our Mechanical Engineers develop, design and supervise the fabrication and implementation of various components and equipment for complex conveyance projects. The engineer is also responsible for the documentation needed to assemble and install their designs. The Integration team specializes in turnkey material handling solutions for the postal & parcel industry. The team works closely with our customers determining their needs and then designing, engineering, manufacturing, installing, commissioning, training and supporting conveyance and sortation solutions. 

The engineer will rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, be familiar with a variety of industrial machine design concepts and performs a variety of complicated tasks. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Design equipment according to application specifications, customer requirements, and within operational timelines.
  • Design system layouts according to application requirements & customer facility constraints
  • Apply engineering principles & practices in design, development, analysis & release of projects including but not limited to:
    • Conveyor design (conventional flat belt & modular plastic belt)
    • Auxiliary equipment design (discharge chutes, control stations, operator & machine platforms, etc.)
    • Electrical wire routing design
    • System point load calculation
    • Equipment safety & risk assessments
  • Prepare detailed equipment assembly drawings, system installation drawings, and other project documentation
  • Support equipment installation and start-up, sometimes on-site in customer plants
  • Collaborate and coordinate with various team members including but not limited to Controls Engineers, Project Managers and customers. 
  • Develop product knowledge and become a subject matter expert within the team
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement & work with the product development teams to implement them

Requirements

  • A self-managed individual who works well both independently and as part of a team
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering 
  • Minimum 7 years experience in industrial mechanical design; experience specifically with conveyor equipment design preferred but not required
  • Travel required (10%) for equipment installation and troubleshooting; often taking place on weekends and holidays to meet customer scheduling requirements 
  • Proficient with commonly used GD&T concepts
  • Proficient at creating detailed part, weldment, assembly, and installation drawings.
  • Strong mechanical and analytical abilities 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office; programming languages also desired

Preferred Qualifications

  • Autodesk Inventor experience, especially in sheet metal design
  • AutoCAD experience, especially related to plant layouts
  • Familiarity with OSHA, NEC, IBC and ANSI / ASME specifications as they relate to conveyor system design
