  • Support the development of new products and identification of material upgrades to existing products by: 
    • Understanding product requirements through researching project specifications and conducting in-person interviews with internal stakeholders, customers and/or design team members based on project needs. 
    • Creating material specific objective statements for new polymer searches based on new product problem definitions and research.   
    • Researching polymer options that meet the required performance specifications. 
    • Collaborating and maintaining relationships with material suppliers and R&D teams to identify polymer options. 
    • Coordination with Manufacturing groups during development and production cycles to both assist and troubleshoot issues. 
    • Developing test plans based on industry testing standards, internal manufacturing requirements, and customer requirements. 
      • Coordinating with outside labs to evaluate material properties. 
      • Conducting in-house tests to evaluate material performance. 
      • Documenting polymer research and test results.  
    • Work with QC departments to develop quality specifications. 
  • Utilize analytical chemistry background to resolve polymer related issues with new and existing products including: 
    • Researching new materials that will resolve current issues. 
    • Analyzing polymer issues related to chemical and environmental compatibility. 
    • Reviewing product complaints to determine if the issues are polymer related. 
    • Developing test plans and conducting tests to evaluate chemical and environmental compatibility. 
    • Coordinating tests with outside labs to assess polymer related issues. 
    • Interpreting results of lab tests. 
    • Recommending options to resolve polymer related issues. 
  • Proven track record of R&D, trouble-shooting, new product development, new compound applications, etc. 
  • Ability to translate customer requirements into mechanical requirements and communicate that information to materials suppliers in the form of materials requirements. 
  • Demonstrated abilities in analytical chemistry.
  • 4-15 years of experience. 
  • Must be a self-managed, hard-working, self-motivated individual. 
  • Must function well in a group structure. 
  • Experience documenting laboratory procedures and test results. 
  • Industrial experience and applications a plus (food, automotive). 
  • Experience with long term data management / storage / access. 
  • Combination of Mechanical and Chemical Degrees preferred. 
  • Programming / Coding experience would be beneficial. 
  • Local to New Orleans area or relocation.
