The Senior Technical Sourcing Engineer is a member of the New Product Development Engineering team who functions as the primary technical liaison with Supply Chain Management and internal/external suppliers to identify/evaluate/qualify suppliers and parts that meet design intent and cost specifications.


Responsibilities

  • Serve as a development team member to understand design goals for new products and determine product sourcing needs throughout the project. 
  • Lead the technical engagement with external suppliers in determining the best process/application for meeting the design intent, specifications, and cost.
  • Work with suppliers and design engineers to reduce complexity through identification and promotion of supplier innovation and well-integrated DFM (Design for Manufacturing).
  • Serve as the accountable cost owner for NPD designs, working to influence our internal and external suppliers to meet our target cost while maintaining design intent and functionality.
  • Challenge R&D on standardization, modularity, simplicity of design, use of standard parts
  • Identify and evaluate new external suppliers as products are scaled globally in accordance with product needs and business values.
  • Serve as primary technical liaison between Engineering and Supply Chain Management and other cross functional teams, assisting them in negotiating prices, awarding bids, inventory management and supplier evaluation.
  • Lead/coordinate production part approval process.
  • Use EPDM (Enterprise Product Data Management) for a source of engineering data and development process controls.  Make recommendations for process improvements to team.  Assist in building the process end of this system out further with an eye towards supply chain functions.
  • Develop complete institutional knowledge of existing ERP sales transaction flow, and setup processes with design team to ensure execution.  Make recommendations for process improvements and be part of the team to develop the new process.
  • Work with Facilities group to find and develop space and equipment for various manufacturing and assembly requirements locally and globally.
  • Manage procurement of parts during development/prototype project stages.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to read/understand GD&T (Geometric dimensioning and Tolerancing) drawings and know what manufacturing processes can support them
  • Demonstrated technical understanding of machining, sheet metal, weldment manufacturing, plastics processes and assembly
  • Demonstrated ability to support multiple complex projects via cross functional teams
  • SolidWorks
  • Cost modeling/estimating
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering (Master is a plus)
  • 5+ years mechanical or manufacturing engineering and 2+ years in supplier management of mechanical parts
  • Exposure to international business environment
