Intralox is currently seeking a Controls Engineer (PLC Programmer) for the ARB (Activated Roller Belt) Global Design Team in the Hanover, MD office. The engineer will primarily be responsible for PLC and HMI programming to control advanced material handling equipment products. The engineer will report to the ARB Global Design Team Software Supervisor. The Global Design Team is focused on developing and supporting standardized equipment product offerings.

Responsibilities

• Develops PLC and HMI applications per equipment functional requirements.
• Modifies and maintains PLC and HMI applications written by others.
• Supports development and improvement of new and existing equipment products.
• Works closely with senior team members and product managers.
• Understands electrical power, control schematic, and field installation drawings.
• Relies on and creates work instructions and guidelines to perform job functions.
• Supports equipment commissioning and assists with troubleshooting field issues, sometimes at a customer site.
• Assists with the creation and teaching of training materials.
• Assists with the preparation of technical documentation deliverables.
• Develops knowledge, becoming a subject matter expert (SME) within the engineering department with respect to design fundamentals, product, and systems.
• May be assigned small projects to complete individually.

Requirements

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline.
• 0-2+ years of related experience (entry-level).
• Knowledge of programming languages such as Python, Java C, C++, MATLAB, LabVIEW. Experience with IEC 61131-3 languages (primarily Ladder Diagram and Structured Text) is a plus.
• Ability to understand and create electrical documentation packages, functional descriptions, and interfaces between internal/external systems.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office applications.
• Self-managed individual who is a team player.
• Must pass drug screening and background check.
• Must have the ability to lift 50 pounds and climb ladders occasionally.
• Travel required (up to 30%) for equipment installation, start-up, or troubleshooting, including weekends and holidays to meet customer scheduling requirements.
• Must be located within a commutable distance to the office located in Hanover, MD (near Baltimore).

Desired Qualifications

• Experience with software version control (git or similar).
• Experience with any of the following software:
o Rockwell Automation Studio 5000 Logix Designer and FactoryTalk View Studio
o Siemens TIA Portal and WinCC
o Beckhoff TwinCAT
o CODESYS
o MATLAB and Simulink
• Experience with any of the following VFDs:
o AB PowerFlex
o Siemens SINAMICS
o SEW-EURODRIVE MOVIMOT/MOVIGEAR
• Experience with any of the following communication protocols:
o Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, ControlNet
o PROFINET, PROFIBUS
o CANopen
o EtherCAT
• Proficient with AutoCAD Electrical.
• Familiar with PTC Windchill.
• Knowledge of standards including NFPA 70/70E/79, UL508A, and IEC 61131-3.
• Experience with configuring PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, industrial PCs, and cameras.
