Laitram, L.L.C. is seeking a Carpenter to join the Corporate Facilities Management and Engineering Team at our Harahan office.  This position will perform a variety of services in specialized building systems and finishes such as construction, door hardware, electronic access control, demolition, painting, flooring and renovation work.

Responsibilities

• Performs work related to commercial construction and maintenance such as wall construction and repair, door hardware installation, electronic access control, demolition, painting, flooring, and renovation.

• Diagnoses, troubleshoots, and repairs door hardware, electronic locks, and construction related problems.

• Provides direction and training to less experienced Maintenance Generalists.

• Plans, purchases, and lays out required materials for service and repair work.

• Works from drawings, schematics, blueprints, job layouts or verbal instructions and operates a variety of tools and machines incidental to operations.

• Assists with completion of small renovation projects and participates in completing punch list items at the end of small renovation projects handled by Corporate Facilities.

• Complies with work order system and adheres to company policies and safety procedures.

• Performs any other miscellaneous duties as requested.


Requirements

• Ten years’ experience as a skilled carpenter, painter, sheetrock finisher, and/or maintenance technician, or completion of a two-year technical degree, trade school or apprenticeship program in carpentry or a related field with five years in commercial construction.

• Requires in-depth knowledge of commercial construction and maintenance fundamentals.

• Must be physically able to perform maintenance tasks to the highest caliber, which includes ability to: climb ladders, lift objects, extend arms to reach overhead, etc.

• Excellent problem solving, organizational and communications skills.

• May be required to use a variety of hand and power tools or operate a forklift and/or aerial lift.

• May be required to work overtime and/or weekends to complete a project.

• Must be a team player committed to working in an environment of continuous improvement.

• Must be detail oriented and precise when painting and finishing drywall.

• Ability to read labels, directions, work orders, etc.

• Must be able to communicate effectively to deliver excellent customer satisfaction.

• May be required to be on call to provide telephone assistance as well as emergency response to the facility.

• Maintains a clean and safe working environment

• Must possess a valid driver’s license.

• Able to perform all essential job requirements identified in the Functional Job Description for this position, including the ability to safely lift up to 76 lbs., climb ladders, work in tight spaces, and stand, kneel and squat on a repetitive basis.


Desired Qualifications

• Experience with electrical work and/or plumbing work.

• Some computer experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel).
